Rush will be hitting select cities to celebrate 50-something years next year; when Geddy and Alex originally let the feline out of the sack, the only Canadian dates were a couple of gigs in Toronto. However, they’ve now added seventeen more gigs, including Vancouver BC in December. Presale signup ends Thursday October 23 at midnight, and presales will begin Monday October 27; the ticket info is right over here.
Says Neil Peart‘s widow Carrie Nuttal-Peart in a media release, together with their daughter Olivia:
We are thrilled to support the Fifty Something tour, celebrating a band whose music has resonated and inspired fans for generations, and to honor Neil’s extraordinary legacy as both a drummer and lyricist.
Neil’s musicianship was singular. Compositions of intricacy and power that expanded what rhythm itself could express. As both drummer and lyricist, he was irreplaceable. Inimitable in his artistry, and unmatched in the depth and imagination he brought to the lyrics that inspired and moved so many, he profoundly shaped how fans connected with him and the band, giving voice and meaning to their own lives.
As the band enters this new chapter, it promises to be truly unforgettable. We are excited to see how their new vision unfolds, and to hear this legendary music played live once again.
As Geddy notes, the drummer on this tour will be Anika Nilles. She’s a German drummer who got her start on YouTube, in the early 2000s, and is now a drum instructor. They’ll (probably) also have a couple of other people with them, “to expand our sound a wee bit and free up Alex and I, in order to show off some of our fancy new dance steps.”
