Kurt Deimer and Geoff Tate have reimagined Queensryche‘s classic Silent Lucidty from 1991 – on which Geoff did the vocals and keyboards originally – and although the tune is about a dream, it’s taken on a new perspective with this new version, as the hard-hitting video raises awareness about suicide prvention.

Deimer is an actor and film producer, and he’s been expanding his horizons by getting into music. “Back in 2020, before Geoff and I collaborated together, I had just finished a tour and was at [legendary producer] Chris Lord-Alge’s studio,” he says. “My grandmother lived to be 106 years old, but the night before she passed, on November 13th, 2020, Chris and I had the idea to cover ‘Silent Lucidity’ because I love that song.”

“I remember seeing Geoff Tate perform it [with Queensryche] on MTV’sVideo Music Awards on TV in 1991, in front of an orchestra, singing ‘Silent Lucidity’ and it stuck in my brain forever how amazing the performance and how killer his voice was.”

“Suicide prevention is also really important to me. I made a point to include information in the video to not only bring awareness but to hopefully encourage someone who needs help to get it.”

Deimer’s new album A Grog Is Born dropped Friday May 08, and features twelve tracks cowritten with his longtime collaborator, Bon Jovi axeman Phil X.

Paul McCartney‘s latest album The Boys Of Dungeon Lane will drop Friday May 29; the first single, Things We Left Behind, appeared recently, and now we have another one. Home To Us marks the first Paul and Ringo duet, and also features vocals by Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri.

Says Paul: “Ringo went round to the studio and drummed a bit. I said to [producer Andrew Watt], we should make a track and send it to him. So this song is done totally with Ringo in mind. In writing the song I’m talking about where we came from. In common with a lot of people, you come from nothing and you build yourself up. Ringo was from the Dingle, and that was well hard. He said he used to get mugged coming home, because he worked. Even though it was crazy, it was home to us,.”

“I made the song around that idea and sent it to Ringo. He sent me back a version where he just added some lines to the chorus, so I thought, maybe he doesn’t like it. I rang him and he said he thought I only wanted him to sing one or two lines, and I said I’d love to hear him sing the whole thing. So we took my first line, Ringo’s second line, and then we had a duet.”

Paul McCartney is back with his first new solo album in more than five years. The Boys Of Dungeon Lane – recorded with assistance from Rolling Stones and Elton John producer Andrew Watt – will drop Friday May 29, and sees Paul revisiting his formative years in post-war Liverpool and early experiences with George Harrison and John Lennon long before Beatlemania. The music is being tagged as the most introspective and candid he’s produced so far.

The lead single Days We Left Behind is a guitar-driven track which explores his pre-fame era and draws from his work with The Beatles and Wings. Says Paul:  “I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”

The album also contains Paul’s first duet with Ringo, Home To Us, which also features Chrissie Hynde, and which will drop Friday. Last night, Paul previewed the entire album for fifty very lucky fans at Abbey Road.

You’ve been hearing the first single You Got To Lose – a cover of an Ike Turner tune – on The Q for a few weeks now, and they’ve followed it up with this one, written by Willie Griffin – Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire.

Following some teasin’, followed by more teasin’, The Rolling Stones have officially revealed that their new album Foreign Tongues will be dropping Friday July 10, and will feature guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, and others.

The album contains fourteen songs, with the lead single In The Stars dropping in ones and zeroes format today; a physical version will follow ten days from now, as will the digital version of Rough And Twisted, which arrived on vinyl only at selected record shops for the recent Record Store Day.

Like 2024’s Hackney Diamonds, Foreign Tongues contains some of the last drum tracks laid down by Charlie Watts, who passed away five years ago. There are also guest appearances from Steve Winwood and Chad Smith. The album was recorded in just a few weeks and produced in a month or so – and if the trailer is any indication, a hell of a fun time was had by all.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood will attend a media launch for the album today n Brooklyn.

Earlier this month, we heard about mysterious posters popping up all over London, possibly hinting at a new Rolling Stones record; a few days later they dropped a new single for Record Store Day, under the name The Cockroaches – Rough And Twisted. And now, we have a release date and a (likely) title for the forthcoming album.

In Australia, France, Poland, The UK, and other countries yesterday, billboards were shared on the band’s Instagram account with the words Foreign Tongues repeated in various languages, suggesting that that will be the album’s title. Fans have already connected some dots; Rough And Twisted contains the lyric Why don’t you teach me – Teach me all those foreign tongues?

The QR code on the billboards leads to the Rolling Stones website, on which ten “studio surveillance cameras” are available. When clicked, each one plays a video, ostensibly of the band recording the album.

Apparently all will be revealed Friday July 10.

U2 have dropped another surprise EP.

On Friday, Easter Lily arrived, following February’s Defiant and the Days Of Ash EP, which dropped on Ash Wednesday. The new six track EP is a standalone, while the band continue sessions for their fifteenth album. This EP is being described as a much more reflective set compared to the one which preceded it. It also arrives with a special edition of U2’s fanzine Propaganda, which first appeared forty years ago.

The first track, Song For Hal, is dedicated to band friend and music collaborator Hal Willner, who could have been 70 on Easter Monday, but passed away six years ago, almost to the day.
