Recently, TD discontinued their funding of the Victoria Jazz Society. With that significant amount of support gone, the future of Jazzfest, The Harbor Blues ‘n Roots Festival – which is already on hiatus – year round performances, and support for school music programs could be in jeopardy.

For the first time in its history, the society has launched a fundraising campaign, with a goal of $250,000 by the end of October. You’ll find the pledge page with much more information right over here – and hear Jazzfest Artistic Director Darryl Mar‘s chat with me below.

Album number sixteen from U2, Carnaval De Luz – their first collection of new material in nine years – will be dropping Friday November 13.

The news comes with another new track, Silencio. The album was recorded all over the place and produced by Jacknife Lee; it’s a collection of twelve tunes which explore spirituality, friendship, freedom, and endurance in the face of dark forces. Timely, that last bit. One of the tracks was cowritten by and features the late Dolly Parton.

The music video for Silencio was shot in Mexico City earlier this year, as was Street Of Dreams, which dropped back in July.

Bryan Adams has revealed his new studio album – and as expected based on his two recent singles The Ballad Of Terry Fox and 51st State, it’s all about The Great White North.

“The idea was simply to make a record about Canada,” says Bryan. “It started with writing the song for the documentary Canada’s Wild Eastern Edge and after doing so much research, I was inspired to start writing more songs about Canada. Musically it took me somewhere a little different too, which made the whole thing exciting.”

The album explores a distinctly Canadian musical landscape, drawing on country, folk and rock. The twelve tracks will drop Friday November 06 via download, on CD, on standard black vinyl, and on red and white splatter vinyl. The bonus track on the download version is Lake Ontario. Heh heh.

A hardback book edition will also be available, featuring the album on CD, song lyrics and images connected to the stories and subjects explored across the record. Preorders and presaves are over here.

Today, Bryan Adams dropped a new single, The Ballad Of Terry Fox, which celebrates one of Canada’s most enduring heroes.

Inspired by the extraordinary life and legacy of Terry Fox, the song tells the story of his historic Marathon of Hope and honours the courage, determination and spirit that made Terry an inspiration to millions around the world.

Terry’s journey began with a simple but extraordinary idea: to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. What followed became one of the most powerful stories of perseverance and hope in Canadian history and a legacy that continues to inspire people around the world more than four decades later.

For Bryan, it was Terry’s ability to turn one person’s determination into a movement that inspired the song. The release of The Ballad Of Terry Fox comes as Terry’s story continues to inspire new generations. More than a tribute to a Canadian hero, the song is a celebration of the enduring power of hope, perseverance and the belief that one person can make a difference.

“I remember Terry’s run back in 1980 when I was on tour In Canada playing 200-capacity clubs,” says Bryan. “I was 20 years old and I think Terry was a year older than me.

“When he stopped near Thunder Bay on September 1, I had just played in Ottawa, and his run was all over the news. Thinking back, it was a pivotal time in Canada (after the Quebec referendum). Without knowing it, Terry gave a slightly fractious country a ‘something’ and ‘someone’ that everyone could agree on and unite behind.

“I’m extremely proud to be part of Sean Menard’s film and especially proud of Terry and his legacy.”

The track is accompanies by the official music video directed by Sean Menard, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the upcoming documentary Run Terry Run. The video brings together Bryan’s musical tribute and the story of Terry’s Marathon of Hope, capturing the spirit of a journey that continues to resonate across generations.

Canada’s first pickleball-specific festival will come to Topaz Park this weekend.

The Victoria Pickleball Festival runs Friday through Sunday, with 174 players in 28 divisions registered for the Outway Open, along with a youth tournament. It’ll also feature food trucks, a market, live music, a first responders showdown, and more.

A month from today – one day ahead of this year’s Terry Fox Run – a new Terry Fox documentary will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Run Terry Run was assembled and restored to 4K from 100 reels of video which a film crew shot during Terry’s 1980 cross Canada run attempt, which he had to abandon five thousand kilmeters in after his cancer spread to his lungs. It’ll premiere at the TIFF a month from today – one day before this year’s 46th annual Terry Fox Run.
