Last year, the legendary Joni Mitchell was awarded the Gershwin Prize For Popular Song; this year, she was back in Washington to award the same prize to Elton John and Bernie Taupin – and while she was there, she covered Elton’s I’m Still Standing, which is particularly near and dear to her, since she survived a brain aneurysm ten years ago. She also got Elton’s blessing to change a few of the lyrics – and as the video shows, both Elton and Bernie were digging her jazzed-up recreation of the tune bigtime.
