In the mid-90s, when Slash exited Guns N’ Roses, he put together Slash’s Blues Ball and covered blues standards from the likes of Willie Dixon and Robert Johnson, among others. And now, on his forthcoming album Orgy Of The Damned, which will drop Friday May 17, he’s revisiting that formula – and he has quite the roster of friends helping him out.
Orgy Of The Damned features guest appearances by Iggy Pop, Chris Stapleton, Paul Rodgers, Demi Lovato, Billy Gibbons, Chris Robinson, and Gary Clark Jr. – and, on the first single, Brian Johnson and Steven Tyler. Johnson delivers the vocals on Howlin’ Wolf‘s Killing Floor, while Tyler plays harp and does some of his demon screamin’.
Slash, who’s a dyed in the wool AC/DC fan, says he really dug working with Johnson, because “he’s f*****g such a great example of a real rock and roll guy who just loves what he does.” And Tyler’s appearance seems to have been somewhat spontaneous, after he and Johnson tracked the vocal one afternoon: “Then I went home to L.A. for a second, and Steve Tyler came in, and he put an impromptu harmonica on it, and that was just really cool.”
