On December 08 1960, John Lennon was trying to get back home from Hamburg, after The Beatles‘ German residency came to an abrupt conclusion – and he wasn’t having a fun time: he didn’t have the taxi fare to get him from the train station to his house. Exactly twenty years later, he was gunned down by Mark David Chapman outside his New York City Dakota apartment building.
The new Apple TV+ docuseries John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial focuses primarily on that particular night over its three episodes, with narration by Kiefer Sutherland. And thankfully, it’s not your ordinary average true-crime effort: it’s a window into a real life horror story which had me shaking my head at the sheer madness on display.
