Things might be looking up for the endangered Vancouver Island marmot population: The Wilder Institute and the Calgary Zoo have welcomed seventeen pups, in six litters, via the Archibald Biodiversity Centre – making this year one of the most successful breeding seasons. Assuming all goes well, at some point they’ll be released into the wilds of the Island. I was unable to contact Marty prior to deadline, but it’s a pretty good bet that if he actually had opposable thumbs, he’d be giving this the thumbs up.
