It would appear that noted tricksters The Rolling Stones have placed a thinly-veiled ad in a local newspaper for their new album – ostensibly dropping next month.
Either that, or they figure the music thing just isn’t working out, and they’re pivoting to glass repair.
The Hackney Gazette recently ran an ad for an outfit called Hackney Diamonds, and the ad seems to be full of clues and Easter eggs. The Stones’ iconic tongue logo is used for the dot over the “i” in “Diamonds”. The ad text contains several references to hits including (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Shattered, and Gimme Shelter. The typeface is the same as the one used on their 1978 album Some Girls. And the “established 1962” note at the bottom matches the year the band was formed.
Meanwhile, the “express interest” Hackney Diamonds link references Universal Music‘s UK division.
We see what you did there, boys.
