Noted purveyor of astronomically-priced merchandise Yves Saint Laurent has a new “Vintage” line, which includes some of the dearest Nirvana gear on the planet – and it will come as no surprise that a lot of fans are not here for it.
YSL is flogging various Kurt Cobain-inspired t shirts and asking anywhere from $990 to $4,450. Hey, I thought I did a typo there, but nope. The most expensive swag is a faded black tee bearing the Incesticide album artwork. The clothing isn’t manufactured by YSL – each piece is actual Nirvana merchandise, purchased by the company for resale.
As you might expect, a lot of the band’s fans are mad peeved – with many pointing out what they see as hypocrisy:
- “Kurt was mad at 50$ (sic) ticket prices. He would be even more angry at this.”
- “KC currently spinning in his grave at 45RPM.”
- “YSL selling Nirvana shirt for $4,000? This is the opposite of what Kurt would have wanted. He thought $20 was too much for a concert ticket.”
- “4K for YSL Nirvana shirt? That shirt better come with a signed note from Kurt Cobain RIP with today’s date, idc.”
I wonder what they thought of the auction sales of Kurt’s grungy cardigan.

YSL reselling vintage nirvana t’s for asinine ass prices is pretty gross.

Who owns the rights for YSL to be able to make and sell these? #CourtneyLove? #FrancesBean? #DaveGrohl? #Nirvana
