The day begins with a performance by Lekwungen Traditional Dancers and Singers, followed by a traditional canoe-landing protocol practice on the shore of Esquimalt Lagoon. Includes traditional plant walks, canoe challenges, children’s field games and craft tent, frybread station, food trucks and vendors market. Events run from 10 am to 3pm at 2005 Sooke Rd. Gilakas’la Pole Raising Celebration for Ḵwax̱diz’dzas
Two welcome poles will be blessed on the ancestral lands on which Ḵwax̱diz’dzas Cumberland Affordable Housing Project will be built. DługwayaX̱alis (Karver Everson) and Aaqwasgem (Junior Henderson) have created a work that speaks to the beauty and resilience of a culture and people. The event takes place at 10am at Cumberland Peace Park, at the intersection of Cumberland Road, Fourth Street and Third Street.
