Todd Rundgren has made no secret of his disdain for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, calling it a “scam”. The Greenwood brothers and Thom Yorke didn’t bother to show up for Radiohead‘s induction. And even Jann Wenner, who cofounded it and ran it for years, has slammed it.
Courtney Love recently published a Guardian op-ed in which she slagged a history of “sexist” gatekeeping at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, recalling Alanis Morisette‘s excoriation of what she called a sexist production environment at last year’s ceremony. And now, Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde has added her voice to the mix.
In a Facebook post, Hynde said that when she was inducted in 2005, she only attended to make her parents happy. ““Other than Neil Young’s participation in the induction process, the whole thing was, and is, total bollocks,” she wrote. “It’s absolutely nothing to do with rock ‘n’ roll and anyone who thinks it is is a fool.”
Oh, my.
