Period Promise - United Way
Periods are a fact of life
Here’s a staggering stat: half of everyone in BC who menstruates – women, girls, non-binary people, and trans folx – has struggled to purchase products for themselves at some time in their life.
It’s more than an inconvenience. Limited access to menstrual products can be a health risk. And period poverty can stop people from reaching their full potential.
Families skip out on important social events. Single moms have to make tough choices at the supermarket. These sacrifices have an impact on all of us—not just those who menstruate.
Fill-the-Bus – a UWSVI menstrual product drive
On Saturday, May 25, help us fill a BC Transit bus with unopened boxes of tampons, pads, and other menstrual products to help those in need.
Local schools, municipal halls, businesses, unions, clubs, families, or individuals… you’re all invited to unite with us!
Want to participate? One of the most helpful things you can do is organize your own product drive! Check our TOOLKIT for tips and materials to help you get the ball rolling.
On May 25, drop off your collected products, test out the Somedays Period Pain Simulator, enjoy live music, and enter to win a prize.
Save-on-Foods at Saanich Plaza: 3510 Blanshard St.
Saturday, May 25, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Bring a single box or fill the bed of your truck with products – we’ll be grateful to accept all of your donations.
As in previous years, Soap for Hope will distribute your donated products to a network of local social service agencies. Any funds donated to the initiative will be used to purchase new products for these agencies.
If you can’t wait until May 25, feel free to drop off your donated products at the United Way Southern Vancouver Island office:
201-663 Courtney Street
Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

That’s why we’ve initiated the Period Promise campaign. It’s a campaign to raise money and collect menstrual products to help combat “period poverty” – the lack of access to menstrual products.
