Yesterday we said so long and thank you to our Foundation Board Chair, Richard Hill. With his demonstrated commitment to community, Richard joined the First West Foundation board in 2015, initially serving as Vice-Chair. In 2019 he stepped into the role of Chair, after serving alongside co-founding director Peter Podovinikoff. We didn’t know it at the time, but Richard quickly became our built-in First West Foundation ambassador in every room he entered, showcasing the work of the Foundation at every opportunity. His passion for his community still powers his warm, thoughtful and strategic approach to governance, business and life. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your exceptional leadership and for leaving a legacy of compassion and care for the communities we serve,” shared Susan Byrom, executive director of First West Foundation. “As you embark on your next adventure, we look forward to the exciting new chapters that await. It has been a tremendous pleasure,” she added. Thank you, Richard, for your legacy and leadership, for guiding us with unwavering dedication and for making a lasting impact on our Foundation and the communities we support. You will be missed! ❤️  Photo credit: Ladysmith Family and Friends Society Photo description: A group of four adults smiling, seated around a table with a young child held by one person, attending a tea party with wigs and props, in a child-care setting with children playing in the background.Yesterday we said so long and thank you to our Foundation Board Chair, Richard Hill. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our 30th Annual Native Plant Sale! This year’s Native Plant Sale took place on May 3rd and 4th, seeing over 500 visitors and selling more than 5,000 plants. These native plants will go on to support local biodiversity and ecosystem health from people’s gardens.    We were able to raise over $60,000, all of which would have not been possible without our team, our dedicated volunteers, and generous sponsors! All proceeds will support Swan Lake’s mission to conserve and restore Nature Sanctuary lands and waters while inspiring stewardship through community engagement and collaboration. We extend a special thank you to Used Victoria, Abstract Development, and Coastal Community Credit Union for supporting this event.     The Native Plant Sale is a cornerstone of our 50th anniversary celebrations – follow us as we celebrate 50 years of conservation and community engagement.  https://www.instagram.com/swanlakenature/  Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary Society | Victoria BC | Facebook

From May 15 to August 21, every dollar you donate to FED Urban Agriculture Society will be matched - up to $20,000 - thanks to the generous support of one of our community members 💚 This means a total of $40,000 will go toward feeding our community - the equivalent of over 11,000 bags of potatoes, enough to provide thousands of nourishing meals. For over a decade, FED has been working to close the gaps in Greater Victoria’s urban food system. With rising food prices and ongoing global challenges, the need is growing and the demand for FED’s work is greater than ever. 🍽️ 22% of people in BC don’t have reliable access to nourishing food 👶 1 in 6 kids live in food-insecure households 💸 Lower-income families spend nearly 20% of their income on food Raising a total of $40,000, means FED can: 🥬Feed up to 20 families for a full season (20 weeks) 🌿Create 60+ garden plots for vulnerable families to grow their own food 📚Educate 300 youth through farm tours and hands-on workshops These numbers represent real people - our neighbours, our friends, our community. Your support is essential to creating a food system that is inclusive, accessible, and sustainable for all.
