More work is needed on wildfire-damaged Highway 4 near Port Alberni, with daytime closures on the way.
Crews have established that work needs to be done on the rocks alongside the road before it can be fully reopened. The work needs to be done during the daytime, so daytime closures will start on Monday, July 17. The closures will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, however there will be a 2-hour opening starting at 11:30 each morning to clear out some traffic. The weekday closures will likely last until the middle of August. The good news is that the highway will remain open on weekends to single-lane alternating traffic.
