John Horgan will be stepping down as the MLA for Langford – Juan de Fuca.
The former Premier was in the Legislature this afternoon for the first time since handing things over to David Eby in November. Horgan had previously suggested he wouldn’t be running for re-election as MLA. In an emotional speech, he told members of the house that he was healthy, and thanked all those who supported him during his battle with throat cancer. While his retirement won’t be official until likely around mid-March, he made it pretty clear that he’ll be stepping away from provincial politics soon. When Horgan does retire officially, Premier David Eby will have to set a date for a byelection in the riding within 6 months.
