Mike Downie Visits The Q’s Scott James
Gord Downie‘s brother Mike, who collaborated with Gord and artist Jeff Lemire on The Secret Path — the tragic story of 12 year old Ojibwe First Nations boy Chanie Wenjack, who died of hunger and exposure after running away from a residential school in northern Ontario — will drop the puck at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tonight as The Victoria Royals entertain the Seattle Thunderbirds.
About a year ago, Gord and the Wenjack family created the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, to assist in reconciliation efforts with Indigenous people. The Royals are supporting the fund tonight with an auction featuring unique items, including a goalie mask customized by Travis Michael, paying homage to Chanie.
Thanks to Mike for dropping in to see me today during The Q’s Rockline.
