‘Stranger Things’: Netflix Has A Hit
Stranger Things, which premiered in July on Netflix, has been one of the streaming service’s most popular original series. It’s also one of the most watched on Netflix.
The eight episode series (so far) is a tribute to supernatural themed movies and books from the 1980s. Major déjà vu elements of The Goonies, E.T., Heathers, and definitely inspired by Steven Spielberg and Stephen King.
Among Netflix originals, Stranger Things ranks ahead of Making a Murderer (13.35 million), Daredevil season two (13.35 million), Jessica Jones (6.26 million), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season two (6.08 million), The Ranch (6.01 million), House of Cards season four (5.67 million), all other Netflix series
Netflix declines to release ratings information about its programming. Netflix argues that because they’re an ad-free subscription service, ratings are not necessarily part of its business model.
Stranger Things has a 95% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best reviewed series of 2016 so far.
