Slash has recorded a new version of Elton John’s classic song “Rocket Man” in honor of a Hollywood stuntman’s attempt to recreate legendary daredevil Evel Knievel’s famous 1974 jump across Idaho’s Snake River Canyon.
Eddie Braun, who idolized Knievel when he was growing up, will use a steam-powered rocket to launch himself across the river on September 17th. Braun’s rocket will be similar to the Skycycle X-2 that Knievel used in his failed attempt.
Slash received Elton’s permission to record the new version of “Rocket Man” version for use as the theme music for Braun’s Kickstarter campaign, which he started to help pay the reported $1.5 million costs of the project. Each person who donates to the campaign will receive a download of “Rocket Man” performed by Slash and his solo band, Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators.
