Each year, the Vancouver Canucks give young hockey players a chance to show their stuff at their prospects development camp — usually in Vancouver — but this year’s edition will be right here on the Island — at Shawnigan Lake School, to be precise.
The camp runs Friday July 03 through Thursday July 09, with all practices open to the public. Says Canucks general manager Trevor Linden, “It’s a chance for a lot of the kids who have never been to Vancouver or BC to kind of see what it’s all about here on the west coast.” The team is also organizing some community events to hook up with fans. “It’s been my experience, being a Vancouver Canuck for many years and having training camp, whether it be in Kamloops, Victoria or Vernon, that it is special,” says Linden. “It just brings what we are about and our brand closer to our fans.”
