Ousted AC/DC drum-smasher Phil Rudd, speaking to New Zealand Herald hacks the other day, says he’s a changed man, and he’s given up “all the crazy stuff” which resulted in his being slapped with an eight month home detention sentence.

“I have behaved myself pretty well.  I even tried to give up the cigarettes but I haven’t,” said Phlyin’ Phil.  “I didn’t drink.  I am not a big drinker so it doesn’t bother me.  But I have stopped all the crazy stuff.”

Rudd pleaded guilty last year to drug possession charges.  He was also cuffed for threatening to kill a former employee, and his late 2014 arrest caused him to miss a video shoot with AC/DC for the Rock Or Bust album, and kept him from touring.

Rudd says he’s visiting a therapist every week.  “I have had to get help on my issues.  I’ve never felt better in my life.  Physically, mentally, I am in the best shape I have ever been.”

He says he’s keen to get back to work, but so far, nobody in the band has reached out to him.  His conviction does not allow him to travel to North America, although he is allowed to visit Europe, and in fact might head there to perform some solo shows.

Rudd’s position in the band was taken by Chris Slade.  The group have sailed in rough waters lately, with bassist Cliff Williams announcing that he’ll retire at the end of the tour, Brian Johnson having to step back from live performing due to serious hearing issues, and Angus Young‘s brother Malcolm exiting due to dementia.
