“Hey, who are those guys that do that S.O.B. song?”
That’s something we’ve heard a lot at 100.3 The Q! in the past months.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats released one of the most interesting albums of 2015. Their self-titled debut is a welcome jolt of soul and R&B from the Denver-based singer and songwriter. He delivers a riveting performance that’s fresh and true to its ’60s inspired soul roots.
The first single, S.O.B. (“Son of a bitch, give me a drink!”) was almost never released. Rateliff told Rolling Stone magazine the song is a troubled song about drinking your life away after a breakup. Word is he didn’t plan to record it.
Keep an ear open for another song from the album. The Q! has picked I Need Never Get Old as another gem worth hearing from their latest self-titled album.
Here’s footage of the song performed live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
