This Sunday, the second annual Car Free YYJ event takes over nine blocks of Douglas Street, with entertainment stages, plenty of vendors, licensed areas and much more.
As a result of this major event, there will be changes in regular transit service in the downtown core.
From 8am til 8pm, buses which normally use Douglas Street will be rerouted onto Blanshard between Bay and Courtney. Temporary stops will be established on Blanshard, corresponding to the regular stop locations on Douglas.
For east-west routes, Johnson, Yates and Fort Streets will all be open, with traffic control personnel on hand to ensure pedestrian safety.
The rerouting will affect transit service throughout the region on Sunday, and therefore the online Trip Planner and schedules will not be accurate for routes affected. Expect longer travel times, and if you’re taking transit to BC Ferries, consider taking an earlier trip to be sure of being on-time.
As one of the event sponsors, BC Transit will have a presence at Car Free YYJ from 11am til 6pm with an information tent and a chance to win a monthly bus pass.
If you have some time to spare this weekend, the Car Free YYJ organizers could use your help. For more information, send Kate an e-mail. And thanks to DVBA Manager Ken Kelly for dropping into the Rock Research Center to tell us more about it.
