The McKenzie Interchange Project is funded by the province ($52.4 million) and Ottawa ($32.6 million).

Thousands of people from Greater Victoria have gone out of their way to give feedback on the three options for the McKenzie Interchange Project. Now it’s up to B.C. Ministry of Transportation and consultants to look at the feedback and figure out which design best suits the intersection of Admirals Road and the Trans-Canada Highway.

More than 14,000 people have weighed-in on the proposed designs.
More than 14,000 people have weighed-in on the designs.

Over 12,000 people visited the project website. Over 600 people went to an open house a couple of months ago. Take a look at the B.C. Ministry of Transportation website for details on what’s next for the project.

Here’s the three proposed design options:

Option 1: Diamond Interchange with Trans-Canada Hwy Under McKenzie/Admirals
Option 1: Diamond Interchange with Trans-Canada Hwy Under McKenzie/Admirals
Option 2: Partial Cloverleaf with Trans-Canada Under McKenzie/Admirals
Option 2: Partial Cloverleaf with Trans-Canada Under McKenzie/Admirals
Option 3: Diamond Interchange with Trans-Canada Over McKenzie/Admirals
Option 3: Diamond Interchange with Trans-Canada Over McKenzie/Admirals

Are you a fan of any of these options, or do you forsee problems with the designs? Leave a comment, we’d love to hear what you think.

  1. There is still no allowance for left turns by eastbound cars wanting to head north on the highway. Cars will still have to wait at lights. Only half the problem has been solved. Shortsighted!

  2. The only one that makes sense is PLAN 3 where the highway goes over McKenzie as their is no space for the other 2 designs without re zonings and removal of parks extra.

  3. Option 2.

Move the traffic. Whether we are driving gas or electric vehicles the problem is congestion. Look to the future. With all the growth in the Western Communities it is only going to get worse. It is not just commuter traffic anymore. We should hire someone from the USA to desgn this. They know how to move traffic. Maybe 2 cloverleafs.

  4. Full clover leaf! Only way to do it without lights. Only thing with that is the drivers in this town won’t know how to use it properly. Drivers can’t even figure out single lane traffic circles in this town.

    • Partial cloverleaf will eliminate traffic lights…which is what is causing congestion now…..The other two designs wont relieve the problems we have now.

      I agree with you 100%!!

      Full cloverleaf with NO lights!!

Maybe this will speed things along much more faster indeed!!

  5. Option 2. The other two looks the same and I can problems with the diamond shape. Option two is more open and can allow traffic to move more freely.

  6. Full clover leaf. People in Victoria need to learn how to yield and to alternate. I can not believe how many can’t.

    • The message I get from these proposals isn’t to stop traffic congestion but rather what is the cheapest way to make it work. You want to solve this problem…spend more money and build a full clover-leaf. Nothing else will suffice……don’t cheap out!

  7. We would like to see a clover leaf with no lights, it would use more real estate but have less congestion.

  8. “B” is the best of 3 rather ho-hum choices. Who cares about grabbing a bit of parkland…we have enough damn parkland in Vic already! Besides, only “homeless” people live in that “park” anyhow. Between that, bikers that don’t obey the laws of the road, and drivers that can’t MERGE to save their lives………..

  9. As a transplant from Vancouver. I gotta say that none of these are very good. Full cloverleaf interchange would be best. With the side streets going over the hwy. Now if you want the right to whine about congestion, try sitting on the east west connector for 2 hours in the morning rush just to get to the s curve west of the bridge and find no reason for the delay as traffic speeds up after the curve to regular freeway speeds. 1/2 and hour to get from the western communities to downtown in the worst traffic is nothing.

    Just an idea!!
