Just over a week ago, I posted this on The Q’s Facebook page:
It looked like a good omen for skiers and snowboarders, and it seems that it was: for the first time in five years, you’ll be able to hit the slopes at Mount Washington early. The resort will go live starting Friday December 01, with regular operations beginning a week after that.
The Eagle Express will operate from 9am til 330pm December 01 through December 03, and one of the Easy Acre magic carpets will be open for newbies. After the first weekend opening, Mount Washington will close until it reopens for full tilt winter operations on Friday December 08. The Nordic area, snowshoeing, tube park and as much alpine terrain as can be safely opened will be available. Night skiing kicks off Thursday December 14, running Thursday through Sunday. Thursday December 21, the lights will be on every night until Sunday January 07.
Mount Washington general manager Peter Gibson says, “Although we had a high freezing level for a couple of days this week, it was followed closely by a temperature drop. This combination is perfect for creating a solid snow base which is currently measured at over one metre in the alpine.”
The resort currently has about two metres of snow.
