Back in July, we heard about the dire straits in which the Esquimalt branch of the Royal Canadian Legion found itself due to a disputed high rise development, and apparently, the situation has not improved.
Legion manager Doug Grant says at this point, their days are likely numbered; the deal to build a $32 million 12 storey seniors’ high rise with a 5,000 square foot space for the Legion has been tied up in court for almost two years, and the financial impact has been severe. “It’s a two part situation. We need the support of the community,” he says. “We are now in a whole new ball game.”
Grant estimates court costs alone will be around $120,000. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to raise money.
