The Greater Victoria School District is introducing strict new proof-of-address requirements for registration next school year.
Parents must have proof of residency in two ways-showing they live in a certain area–for their children to get priority enrollment for that school.
The stricter rules come in after the District changed its enrollment priorities earlier this year.
The District is putting a higher emphasis on enrolling children in schools nearby to where they live.
New student enrollment priorities now in effect for the 2018/2019 school year:
1. re-enrolling students
2. a catchment area sibling
3. a catchment area child
4. a non-catchment sibling
5. a non-catchment child
6. a non-school district child
Enrollment at the District starts in January.
