Green Day‘s Grammy Award-winning American Idiot is getting yet another iteration: according to a chat with vocalist/axeman Billie Joe Armstrong, it’s received the green light and is “all systems go” for a film adaptation, which will appear on HBO.
A film version of American Idiot has been plotted for quite a while now, with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetsman of Playtone Productions getting their hands on the rights five years ago. Back then, Armstrong was approached to play the lead role of St. Jimmy, as he had done on the album and onstage in the musical.
There’s no release date yet; in fact, shooting has yet to begin. But, according to Armstrong, it will be coming to HBO. “That’s the plan right now, yeah,” he says. “We’ve got a green light from HBO, and the script is currently going through a couple of rewrites here and there, so I’m not sure when exactly we’re going to start shooting, but it’s definitely all systems go at the moment.”
Green Day’s new Revolution Radio album, from which you’ve been hearing Bang Bang on The Q, will be released tomorrow.
