When we got news of Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie‘s terminal brain cancer this year, we were devastated. And, while tributes have poured in from a host of his fellow artists, a new website has been set up on which you can leave a personal message as well.
The new Raise One For Gord site allows visitors to record a personalized video message for Gord using a webcam, mobile phone or other device. The video can then be saved for sharing with friends (or “friends”) and can be added to a stream of messages from other users, with a soundtrack of Tragically Hip songs behind them.
The site is the brainchild of Nickel Media, who made it happen using their video rendering technology, Imposium. “Like most Canadians, and most people facing unfortunate circumstances out of their control, we’re all feeling pretty helpless,” Nickel Media creative director Jeff Middleton said in a statement. “We wanted to give people a way to express themselves in a way that fit, and that’s by raising a glass.”
The site can be accessed here, and also contains a link for donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation.
