Red Hot Chili Peppers have released the title track from their new album The Getaway.
The band’s 11th studio effort will be released on June 17th.
Bassist Flea said the name of the album was open to interpretation and gave us his thoughts on it: “For me, the way I think about it is, we all want to get away, you know. We all want to go be somewhere beautiful, doing something that we love, you know, something that really gets us in the moment and rockin’ and whether you’re a Syrian refugee or someone who’s tortured or — everybody wants a sanctuary to go to and it might just be like inside your own self, which is really the best one you could ever have. But that’s what it makes me think about.”
The first single from The Getaway, called “Dark Necessities,” arrived earlier this month. The new album was produced by Danger Mouse and mixed by regular Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich. The Getaway is the first Chili Peppers album to be made without longtime producer Rick Rubin in 25 years.
The band’s next scheduled live appearance will be at the BottleRock Festival in Napa, California on May 29th.
